Job hunting often feels like a solitary match for young people of immigrant backgrounds in Belgium.
In the Charleroiarea, the organization DUO for a JOB offers personalized support by connecting job seekers with mentors.
The story of Franck and Thibaud perfectly demonstrates that with the right partner, you never have to play the professional game alone.
A young graduate facing isolation
A recent IT graduate, Franck began his job search with plenty of motivation, but quickly hit the harsh reality of the market.
After months of complicated and lonely efforts, frustration and discouragement began to set in. Without a network to support him, he decided to turn to DUO for a JOB, convinced that human, personalized guidance was the key to jumpstarting his career.
Thibaud’s commitment: a mentor standing up to market injustices
The team introduced him to Thibaud, a volunteer mentor. It was an instant connection! Thibaud quickly recognized his mentee's technical potential.
I had probably underestimated the loneliness of job hunting
But the challenge was significant: they had to refocus goals and keep Franck motivated despite doors being slammed in his face. Together, they faced unjustified rejections and flimsy excuses from companies. This experience opened Thibaud’s eyes to the difficulties of the integration process.
To blow off steam and strengthen their bond, the two men connected over a shared passion: football, becoming avid supporters in the stands of Sporting de Charleroi.
" I had probably underestimated the loneliness that comes with job hunting. [...] The best in us is already there. A mentor's role is to help young people find that potential. ”
– Thibaud, mentor.

The assist that leads to a permanent contract
The pair doesn't give up. They work intensively on the resume and cover letters, and reach out to companies en masse.
I was able to follow my path with confidence
Their combined efforts lead to a wonderful victory: Franck lands a permanent position as IT support at an international school!
Mission accomplished professionally, but also personally, as the two friends have already planned their next Zèbres game.
“ When you're job hunting, you feel very alone and demotivated; if there's no one by your side, you fall apart. Thanks to this support, I was able to follow my path with confidence. ”
– Franck, mentee.
