On the occasion of the International Day for Mentoring, DUO for a JOB - a pioneer in intercultural and intergenerational mentoring - wishes to recall the crucial importance of mentoring for society as well as for the economy.
Since 2013, DUO for a JOB has been creating bridges between young people with an immigration background looking for work and experienced volunteer mentors over 50 years old, and supporting these young people towards employment. Indeed, 7 out of 10 young people find a job, an internship or a training course after 6 months of support at DUO for a JOB.
This programme is essential, on the one hand, in a society where discrimination is still too often a reality and, on the other hand, in an economy that prioritizes getting back into work, empowering and fighting long-term unemployment.
As a reminder, federal and regional governments have set an employment rate target of 80% by 2030. An ambitious objective that aims to guarantee social security and the expenses associated with the ageing of the population.
The DUO for a JOB impact is major for 3 reasons
Return on investment : Mentoring is a profitable investment. Indeed, a person put back into employment would bring in an average of €28,000 to the State. In comparison, support at DUO for a JOB costs an average of €3,000 and allows 7 out of 10 young people to find an opportunity again.
Early career: Several studies have shown that unemployment at the beginning of a career increases the risk of being confronted with long-term unemployment later on.
Remote audiences: DUO for a JOB particularly affects groups whose employment rate is lower than the average (young people with an immigration background, %NEETS, long-term unemployed, women, women, non-qualified).
“Mentoring is a powerful springboard to employment. Mentoring restores confidence in young people, supports them in their efforts, and makes it possible to get out of unemployment. We offer an innovative and efficient program that has a concrete impact on the careers of these young talents. Everyone can thus exploit their potential and contribute to society!” , explain Julie Bodson and Frédéric Simonart, co-directors of DUO for a JOB.
