“I am disappointed”: Hanane was a victim of discrimination at the hiring stage, she testifies

Hiring discrimination is still very present in Belgium. Djenabou paid the price during his search for internships.

At DUO for a JOB in Borgerhout, young people with a migrant background are paired with experienced mentors to help them find a job more easily. According to the non-profit organisation, migrants in Antwerp have a 17% lower chance during recruitment processes. That is why they are launching the “Who is it?” campaign, aimed at raising awareness about discrimination against jobseekers.

For almost a year, Palestinian refugee Mohamed has been searching for a job in our country, without success. “They always come up with a new excuse. In reality, the only real reason is that they don’t want to hire me because of my Arabic name,” he says. And he is not alone. That is why DUO for a JOB is now launching an awareness-raising campaign.
