  • What is GDPR?

GDPR is the new European data protection reference and aims at reinforcing the framework and practices concerning the collection and use of personal data.

The rules of GDPR replace regulation 95/46/EU and apply as of May 25, 2018, to all public and private companies active in an EU member state. More particularly, organizations that :

    • Offer goods & services on the (unified) EU market
    • Collect and process data of EU citizens

Be aware that the regulation also applies to companies not established in the EU from the moment they collect and process personal data of EU citizens.

The GDPR rules and obligations apply to the processing-whether or not automatically- of personal data, i.e. all information relating to an identified or identifiable person. An identifiable person is any person who can be identified directly or indirectly by reference to identification, such as name, number, location, online identification, or to more specific characteristics of physical, physiological, genetic, psychological, economic, cultural, or social identity.

Data processing as defined by GDPR refers to the collection, access to, storage, manipulation, destruction and consultation of data.
